
Our Presiding Bishop
Bishop W. Darin Moore
Bishop W. Darin Moore is a native of Mt. Vernon, NY, and began his college education at Livingstone College, graduating from Purchase College in Purchase, NY, with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Psychology. Theological studies were done at Yale University Divinity School, obtaining the M.Div. from United Theological Seminary. He received his Doctor of Ministry Degree from UTS, as well as an honorary Doctorate from Livingstone College in Salisbury, North Carolina.
Pastoral assignments for Bishop Moore have included Clarksville and MorningStar A.M.E. Zion Churches, Monroe, NC; Mt. Olivet A.M.E. Zion Church, Greensboro, NC; and Jones Tabernacle A.M.E. Zion Church, Indianapolis, IN. While in Greensboro, he served on the Commission for the Greensboro Coliseum and the County Commission on Children and Youth. In Indianapolis, Bishop Moore served two terms as President of the Board of Directors for the Greater Indianapolis Church Federation and was the Presiding Elder of the Indianapolis District for the A.M.E. Zion Church. He became the pastor of his home church, Greater Centennial A.M.E. ZionChurch, in 1993 and served faithfully until his election as a Bishop.
In July 2012, Bishop Moore was elevated to the episcopacy from Greater Centennial A.M.E.ZionChurch, Mt. Vernon, NY, as the 99th bishop in succession. During his tenure as pastor of Greater Centennial, the congregation grew from a few hundred to more than 6,500 members. Bishop Moore was elected President of the Mount Vernon Board of Education.
Additionally, he served as President of the United Black Clergy of Westchester, the Founding Chairperson for Save Our Seed Ministries, and a member of the Westchester County African American Advisory Board. He is the Founder and the past President of the Greater Centennial Community Development Corporation and past President of Greater Centennial Homes, where he led the construction of the James Varick Homes for 1st time home buyers, construction of the Zion Court Apartments, and a $12 million substantial renovation of Greater Centennial Homes.
Twice, he has been selected as the Morning Preacher for the Hampton Ministers’ Conference, an annual gathering of more than 10,000 ministers and musicians from around the country. He has been inducted into the Morehouse College MLK Board of Preachers and the Bishop Alfred G. Dunston College of Preachers inaugural class at Livingstone College. Bishop Moore’s sermons have been published in The African American Pulpit Forum and the Balm in Gilead Journal. He is the author/editor of two books.
Bishop Moore is a Past Chair of the National Council of Churches, USA, Chair of the Hood Theological Seminary Board of Trustees, Vice Chairman of the Livingstone College Board of Trustees and a member of the World Methodist Council. He also serves as Chairman of the Restructuring Commission and the Connectional Budget Board of The A.M.E. Zion Church. Bishop Moore is the Presiding Bishop of the Eastern North Carolina Episcopal District, which includes the Albemarle, Cape Fear, Central North Carolina, North Carolina, and the Virgin Islands Conferences.
A loving husband to Devieta C. Moore and a devoted father to Daron (Elaina), Dana (Kevin), and Dion. He and his wife are proud grandparents of five grandchildren: Jayli, Creed, Kevin, Carter, and Dailyn.

Our Missionary Supervisor
Mrs. Devieta C. Moore
Mrs. Devieta C. Moore, the Missionary Supervisor of the Eastern North Carolina Episcopal District, was born in Suffolk, VA, and is one of five children of Clifton and Sylvia Gwaltney. Faith and family have always been the defining aspects of her life. Upon graduation from John F. Kennedy High School, she relocated to New York to further her educational pursuits. She obtained an Associate’s Degree in Business Administration from LaGuardia College and a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from The College of New Rochelle.
On June 9th, 1984, she married the Reverend W. Darin Moore at the altar of Greater Centennial A.M.E. Zion Church in Mt. Vernon, NY. They are the proud parents of three beautiful children by birth and two through marriage: Daron (Elaina), Dana (Kevin), and Dion. Their lives have been enriched by their precious grandchildren: Jayli, Creed, Kevin, Carter, and Dailyn.
Professionally, Mrs. Moore has held positions with the New York City Board of Education and Morgan Stanley Guaranty Trust Company on Wall Street. She moved to North Carolina in 1984 and assumed a position as an administrative assistant at Hood Theological Seminary. Upon moving to Greensboro, NC, she worked for American Express. After the birth of their first child, she prayerfully decided to become a “stay-at-home” mom and has worked full-time raising her children and providing a loving home for her family.
Mrs. Moore has been an invaluable ministry partner to her husband, serving at times as his administrative assistant but always as his confidante, advisor, friend, and prayer partner. She has offered devoted service as First Lady of Clarksville and Morning Star in Monroe, NC, Mt. Olivet, Greensboro, NC, Jones Tabernacle, Indianapolis, IN, and Greater Centennial A.M.E. Zion Church, Mt. Vernon, NY. Always willing to use her gifts for Zion, she was active in the W.H.& O.M. Society as the Westchester District Secretary of Youth and Vice President of the local society at Greater Centennial. While in Indianapolis, she was the Director of Mission Education for the Indianapolis District.
Additionally, Mrs. Moore has served the connectional A.M.E Zion Church as a member of the Budget Committee as well as the Human Relations and Social Concerns Committee for the Ministers Spouses Association. As a member of the Connectional Council of The A.M.E Zion Church, Mrs. Moore served on the Public Relations and Historical Society Administrative Board. She has served as a voting delegate to the World Methodist Council in Durban, South Africa, and has twice been a voting delegate at The A.M.E. Zion General Conference.
During the 49th Quadrennial Session of The A.M.E. Zion General Conference, her husband was elected the 99th bishop in line of succession and was assigned to the Western Episcopal District. As Missionary Supervisor, she has provided encouragement and oversight for the missionaries of Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Oregon-Washington, and Southwest Rocky Mountain Annual Conferences. She has served as Missionary Supervisor for the Allegheny, East Tennessee and Virginia, Ohio, Philadelphia and Baltimore, Virginia, Guyana-Suriname, Barbados, and St. Vincent Annual Conferences. She now serves as Supervisor for the Albemarle, Cape Fear, Central North Carolina, North Carolina, and Virgin Islands Annual Conferences. She served as the Chairman of the Resolutions Committee for the 29th Quadrennial Convention held in Orlando, Florida, in July 2019 and the 30th Quadrennial Convention in New Orleans, LA, in July 2023. She also serves on the Budget & Finance Committee for the WHOM Society.
Mrs. Devieta Moore epitomizes the attributes of a virtuous woman as described in Proverbs 31. “Who can find a virtuous wife? For her worth is far above rubies. Her children rise up and call her blessed; Her husband also, and he praises her." (Proverbs 31:10, 28)
