RE: URGENT ACTION NEEDED
The United States Senate is preparing to vote in the next few days on what Trump has falsely labeled; Big, Beautiful The truth is that it is big, but anything but beautiful. In fact, it is immoral, cruel and ugly for millions of Americans.
If this legislation passes, people will suffer. It drastically cuts Medicaid and SNAP benefits while giving massive tax breaks to the wealthy and big corporations. Even Republican Senator Thom Tillis has stated that the bill will hurt many North Carolinians as it will result in North Carolina losing more than $38 billion in federal Medicaid funding over the next decade, with nearly $10 billion of that coming from lost hospital revenue. According to a flyer distributed by Tillis, this would put Medicaid coverage for over 600,000 North Carolinians at risk.
In spite of these facts, it appears that the Republican senators, including Thom Tillis, are about to buckle under pressure from Donald Trump and their wealthy donors and will vote against best for their own constituents.
They must hear from us IMMEDIATELY!!!
See this important message that was received by Tama Bouncer. It was sent out from the North Carolina Retired School Personnel:
- The federal bill known as One Big Beautiful Bill is being considered by Congress at this time. We encourage you to call the office of Senator Thom Tillis or email him to ask that Senator Tillis oppose One Big Beautiful Bill. Below are some issues of concern:
- While providing temporary tax relief for those who receive Social Security, which would help us pay bills today, it weakens our Social Security Funding overall.
- The bill includes cuts to Medicare and Medicaid. Some retirees who receive both Medicare and Medicaid would be harmed. (Emphasize to Senator Tillis that both Medicaid and Medicare are essential for many retirees and funding for these programs should not be cut!)
- The bill includes cuts to Medicare Long-term care benefits which would affect some retirees.
- Immigrants who have paid into Social Security for years would not be able to receive Social Security.
- The bill puts some funding for federal public school programs on the states. This would affect the amount of money that the NC Legislature provides for education and limit raises for state retirees.
- The bill cuts federal funding of food programs and diverts these funds to increase border security.
- The federal deficit would be increased by trillions of dollars.
- The bill eliminates or reduces health care benefits for disadvantaged seniors and other citizens.
